I would say that I find the Dark Rising series incredibly bad. Having to spend hours murdering wild Pokemon to advance is a stupid design decision. It's like playing any game where they just make all the bosses have an insane amount of health to make them more difficult. The Ruby Destiny series is pretty bad too. At least, the first one is. The story is really bad and the overall world design is terrible. The second in the series is a hack of Pokemon Rescue Rangers or whatever it is called.

Thus far I've only tried the first in the series and i do not plan on finishing it. Victory Fire has an okay story but terrible grammar so sometimes you can barely understand what is happening in the game. Resolute had a recent update to make the grammar actually understandable and is leagues better than VF. Glazed is probably top tier for rom hacks. You won't find that kind of quality in pretty much any other hack. If you found it boring, you will probably find most rom hacks boring since many follow the formula of the main series games (Go to town, beat gym leader, get HM that lets you advance, beat rival, challenge bad team, etc.) Outlaw, Cawps, and Korosu are a bit different in terms of hacks.
Pokemon Dark Rising
They are basically remakes of Kanto, Hoenn, and the Sevii Islands respectively but have some darker tones and stuff. I wasn't really a fan, but you may like them. Edit: I also didn't like Prism. Adding two new types was a terrible decision in my opinion, but to each his own.
