Hey, I got Sony SZ680 Originally with Vista Home Premium. I have downgraded it to Xp Pro S.P 3. For some reason the Hdd protection isn't functioning. I have reinstalled the 'Sony Shared Library'-file 'SOASSL-00598801-XP', 'Hdd protection driver' file 'SODOTH-13238400-US' and 'Hdd protection Software'-file 'SOAHDD-12845600-XP' from The Sony support page. During the software installation I don't get to the 'Finish' step.
I do get the application file, but when I click it nothing happens. Safe Mode Doesn't help. Does anyone has a direction to get it fixed?
May 18, 2010 - I had a hunt around for more up to date ones for Poulsbo systems but there are none, not even with Dell, so don't worry that it's a Vista driver. On the Sony US support site they're more organized and both the HDD Protection driver and Chipset drivers are correctly listed in the Windows 7 section (same exact.
Installing another OS on Sony's has for years found no support. If this is all that failed, count yourself lucky as this module is more a nice to have one than critical.
Be sure to call Sony if you feel it should have installed. But let me share a nugget we found.
There was an all too similar failure on another driver. Starting over we ran the OS to XP SP2 and installed all the drivers there. Then it worked. The new XP SP3 CD could not be used as the last drivers would not install with XP SP3 as the base OS. There was no hope that the maker would issue new drivers since they had closed down the driver project and the programmers were not employees of the company!
I'm sharing the nugget since it was very irritating since we know that XP driver support is dimming fast. You can safely bet that the owner will have to reload the OS someday and can only hope they kept our install notes with the machine. I find that many lose the install CDs inside a month. Back to your issue.
I can't say if this will help or not but another issue is what PROTECTION SOFTWARE is installed. When we are installing the OS, drivers and such we don't want the antivirus, firewalls installed yet as these can interfere.
